Who would have thought a man in the spot light as much as he is - as recognizable as he is - and as careful about his image as he is - would be so ________, fill in what ever adjective you want, they all apply. There is no excuse for his actions. There is no rationalization. He was not slipped drugs in his drink. He was not forced nor coerced. Even human frailty is not an excuse. He did not make a mistake because he did it and continued to do it with intent and apparently with more than one partner. That is a willful act. When we make a commitment for life we choose one person and say I want to be with you alone. I willingly give you my fidelity to demonstrate my level of commitment. Sex is not a recreational sport. It is the intimate act of unifying with one person. Will we ever be tempted? Absolutely. Will we ever think or have a dream about some one else? Quite likely. The difference between humans and animals is that we have the ability to control our urges or to say "no" to those who would offer the temptation. Why is it that those who are in a position of power, wealth or fame seem most susceptible to breaking their vows and thinking it is okay until they are caught? Why is it, that some of the rest of us willingly surrender our morals when they ask? That, "they are only human" is a completely unacceptable excuse, because it tarnishes the reputation of all those humans who choose to live up to their obligations. The rationalization diminishes all of us.
